Yoga for stress release
STRESS STRESS STRESS we have heard this word thrown around quite a lot. What really is stress? Stress is the fight or flight response to a demanding situation. It activates of your sympathetic nervous system which prepares you to fight or flee the demanding situation. Thus this stress response is vital for our survival. Without this stress response, we would not run away from a wild animal preparing to attack. So when does stress become a problem? After every stressful situation, we need our system to come back to homeostasis. But when we are faced with continuous challenging situations our stress mounts and we are unable to come back to homeostasis so much so that even when the “stressor” is removed our system is unable to come back to this state of balance. Yoga can help with bringing back the mind and body to homeostasis through Asana(Poses) and Pranayama(breathing) practice. Elements of Hatha and Ashtanga yoga is used to achieve this.
