STRESS STRESS STRESS we have heard this word thrown around quite a lot. What really is stress? Stress is the fight or flight response to a demanding situation. It activates of your sympathetic nervous system which prepares you to fight or flee the demanding situation. Thus this stress response is vital for our survival. Without this stress response, we would not run away from a wild animal preparing to attack. So when does stress become a problem? After every stressful situation, we need our system to come back to homeostasis. But when we are faced with continuous challenging situations our stress mounts and we are unable to come back to homeostasis so much so that even when the “stressor” is removed our system is unable to come back to this state of balance. Yoga can help with bringing back the mind and body to homeostasis through Asana(Poses) and Pranayama(breathing) practice. Elements of Hatha and Ashtanga yoga is used to achieve this.

About
A human mind is a powerful tool. As with anything powerful it can make or break you. The human mind when disciplined can work for you in wonderful ways. But if you let it have its way it can wreak havoc in your life. Buddhists compare the human mind to a monkey. Just like a monkey jumping from one tree to another the human mind jumps from one thought to another. This restless state of mind can wreak havoc in an individual’s life, thus it is important to calm the mind to pacify and discipline It. When the mind is calm the thought flow is clear as the clutter is removed. Meditation practices in yoga are perfect for achieving this.
About
Spirituality is the centre of a yogic lifestyle. Remember “You are not the mind, you are not the body”. Nourish your mind and you will experience peace and balance but when you die you shed it. Nourish your body it will bring good health and wellbeing but when you die you shed it. Nourish your soul/spirit and it will stay for eternity. A religious person will most likely be spiritual but a spiritual person is not necessarily religious.
Use of Mantra, Pranayama and Meditation in combination with Asana practice can help with spiritual growth.
About
Kinds, in general, are flexible and learn easily. Kids are easily meditative as compared to adults if trained properly. A kids yoga session is fun and includes poses breathing practices and a bit of meditation.

Yoga has a multitude of benefits for the senescent as well. Asanas are modified to suit the elderly so they can practice it without strain and reap benefits.
The disabled or people who have movement issues can practice chair yoga. These are practices modified with using chair and blocks and belt to practice the poses.
About
Modern fast paced life takes our focus off from maintaining physical wellbeing.
Long sitting hours combined with poor diet and irregular sleep timing is in itself a recipe for chaos in the body add to that high-stress levels, smoking/drinking, poor sleep quality and other poor lifestyle choices… Result? Disaster!!
What one can observe in the above scenario is that we are “ON” like a machine all the time and never take the time to “SWITCH OFF” or unwind. Even a machine that is kept running for long has wear and tear and ultimately at some point will break down. Just like the machine humans also break down(just in a different way). We become depressed mentally and physically we are just so worn out. We haven’t given our body a chance to repair and recharge. A machine we can throw away but we can’t do the same with our body. So it's important to take care!!
About
Corporate executives are by far the most stressed out people I have met in my life. Most corporates have very high stress levels and a good percentage of them beat stress with cigarettes, alcohol, binge eating, drinking too much tea/coffee and other addictive habits; all of which is unhealthy. Poor health leads to more stress thus becoming a vicious cycle. As a yoga teacher I feel the need to bring change to this vicious cycle. To show them a different way, a healthier way to beat stress and become more calm and pleasant within yourself. A combination of asana, with more focus on pranayama and deep relaxation is used to achieve this.
